Forbes took a close look at similarities and differences between Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro. According to Chief Pharmacotherapy Officer Robert Alesiani, Ozempic and Wegovy are both semaglutide-based medications. He also explains that Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro all are once weekly subcutaneous injections, and they have similar side effects.
As Robert points out, in recent months, many pharmacies have experienced shortages of semaglutide medications. He sheds light on products made and sold by some online pharmacies, labeled “for research purposes only.” Robert advises against purchasing these substitute medications online without a prescription, noting that people who have opted to use weight loss medications should be guided and monitored by a prescriber like a physician, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant.
