McKnight’s Home Care covered a Harvard Business Review article on Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). For additional insight on PACE, McKnight’s turned to former PACE medical directors, Mike Brett and David Wilner, who are on the team at Capstone Risk Adjustment Services under CareVention HealthCare, a division of Tabula Rasa HealthCare.
According to Dr. Wilner, while PACE has been around for decades, it was a secret for many years. More specifically, he noted, “It was developed in 1980s and replicated in 1990s. It was a secret until the results came out during the pandemic. Even though this was nursing home level of care for participants, they are living in the community, and their level of infection and death was a third of that of nursing homes.”
The article also shed light on PACE’s capitated payments, with Dr. Brett pointing to the beauty of PACE. As he said, “They are getting capitated dollars from Medicaid and Medicare and they can throw it in one pot.”
