Next Avenue spoke with Chief Pharmacotherapy Officer Robert Alesiani for a piece that explores whether medication effectiveness changes over time.
According to Robert, “If a person is on blood pressure medication for thirty years, for example, the response may change over time because as we grow older everyone experiences metabolic changes.”
He goes on to note that our liver, kidneys and blood vessels change as we age, which impacts how the body processes common medications taken by many older adults.
