MOORESTOWN, N.J., December 19, 2018 – Capstone Performance Systems, a subsidiary of Tabula Rasa HealthCare, Inc. (“TRHC”) (NASDAQ: TRHC), recognized David D. Wensel, DO, Chief Medical Officer of Midland Care in Topeka, Kansas, with the inaugural Richard O. Schamp, MD, Award. The Award is named in honor of Dr. Schamp, the founding CEO and visionary of Capstone Performance Systems, which provides expert Medicare risk adjustment, health plan management, and PACE operational consulting services to Programs of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) and other at-risk healthcare organizations. Dr. Schamp, TRHC’s Chief Medical Officer, has devoted his career to geriatric medicine and the PACE model of care.
The Richard O. Schamp, MD, Award was created to honor Dr. Schamp’s many contributions to PACE and to recognize a PACE Medical Director who espouses the principles championed by Dr. Schamp. His contributions in geriatric medicine and as a proponent of a patient’s goals of care in both care planning and advance directives are well-known.
As Chief Medical Officer for Midland Care, Dr. Wensel has been instrumental in the development of the PACE program at Midland. After joining Midland in 2010, he helped to start the palliative medicine consultation service at St. Francis Medical Center in Topeka, and one of the first out-patient palliative medicine clinics in a community oncology practice at Cotton O’Neal Cancer Center.
Dr. Wensel received his Bachelor of Science degree from Creighton University and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Des Moines University. He completed a Family Medicine Residency and Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. He is a Fellow of the American Academies of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

In presenting the Award, Capstone Performance Systems’ Senior Medical Consultant, David Wilner, MD, thanked Dr. Wensel for his exemplary service and contributions to PACE, his love of primary care and his commitment to palliative medicine and end-of-life care. “Dr. Wensel is truly a role model for all PACE Medical Directors”. Joining Dr. Wilner in presenting the award were TRHC Executive Vice President Kim Browning and George “Mike” Brett, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President for Consulting Services, Capstone Performance Systems.
The Award was presented during a PACE Appreciation Dinner hosted by CareVention HealthCare, a division of TRHC, on October 21 at the Hilton Downtown Hotel in Portland, Oregon. The dinner preceded the National PACE Association’s Annual Conference.
