Moorestown, NJ, February 15, 2016 — Representatives of schools of pharmacy throughout the United States gathered at The Union League of Philadelphia in early January to discuss their experience using NiaRx®, a cloud-based software platform designed to facilitate the cognitive practice of pharmacy through case-based learning utilizing Tabula Rasa HealthCare, Inc.’s (TRHC) novel and proprietary Medication Risk Mitigation® technology platform. The First Annual Faculty Education/NiaRx Focus Group meeting gathered current and prospective users of the software to review existing and new functionalities. NiaRx is offered by TRHC, a healthcare technology company that is a leader in providing patient-specific, data-driven technology and solutions for health care organizations.
Michael Ristagno, Pharm.D., MBA, Senior Vice President, Client Services of CareKinesis, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of TRHC, described the goal of NiaRx software: “Using Tabula Rasa’s state-of-the-art Medication Risk Mitigation® technology, NiaRx promotes interaction between faculty and students, and provides faculty with communication features and a grading module that facilitates learning.”
NiaRx currently has over 2,000 registered academic users.
“With 4.3 billion prescriptions filled in the United States in 2014, medication treatment is the most common medical intervention. Its imprecise use contributes to an estimated 45-50 million adverse drug event annually,” stated Calvin H. Knowlton, BScPharm, MDiv, PhD, Chairman and CEO of TRHC. “Those are the issues we set out to tackle when we founded the Company in 2009. Tabula Rasa’s suite of cloud-based software solutions provide prescribers, pharmacists and healthcare organizations with sophisticated and innovative tools to better manage the medication-related needs of patients. We are excited to introduce NiaRx which provides electronic health record training and patient-case simulation for pharmacy students, the future members of tomorrow’s caregiving teams.”
Current NiaRx Beta test participant, Anita N. Jackson, Pharm.D., Clinical Associate Professor University of Rhode Island, College of Pharmacy, spoke of her experience with the software, “NiaRx is an education-based EHR that allows me to easily update and manage my clinical cases from semester to semester with unique faculty and student features for grading, team management and enhanced student-patient communication. NiaRx allows me to create progressive cases for my P1-P3 students to review in preparation for standardized patient assessments and conduct in-depth clinical chart reviews to formulate recommendations for care. Working with NiaRx has resulted in notable improvements in my student pharmacists’ ability to conduct a thorough patient history, document findings from a patient interview/physical assessment, and formulate recommendations for patient care.”
The focus group also included presentations on the clinical application of pharmacogenomics and medication risk mitigation led by TRHC’s clinicians Dr. Kevin T. Bain, Vice President, Medication Risk Mitigation and Dr. Jacques Turgeon, Chief Scientific Officer.
